Cradle.IA has officially been launched!!! After talking separately for well over a year, a small group of 14 people from Bali and Australia were very excited to hold the first official Cradle.IA meeting and workshop at Slukat Learning Centre, in Gianyar, on the 2nd January 2018. Our day consisted of meeting each other for the first time as a team, establishing a direction for Cradle.IA based on our common vision of empowering young people to overcome disadvantage, and then developing the first steps towards reaching this goal.
Cradle.IA is a network of people and organisations from Indonesia and Australia (and other countries), who have an acknowledged passion to help overcome the disadvantage that many young people experience. This disadvantage might be due to any number of things, from poverty, a disability, abuse to just plain life circumstances that have prevented young people from having and doing the types of things that most of us take for granted. Our team recognises the privilege they have themselves, and want to be able to share their resources, knowledge and experiences with these young people in order to empower every young person to address whatever disadvantage they might live in.
We have big plans for both an independent research centre and a number of learning centres for disadvantaged kids. The research centre will be a shared organisation for all our university partners and will focus on research capacity building and on conducting research that can help us to work effectively with disadvantaged young people. The learning centres will be strategically developed to provide education in English language and technological skills, but it is also planned that these centres can provide support for medical and other needs that young people might have. However, our most immediate aim is to start fund raising so that we can put our plans into action.
We came to the conclusion at the end of the day that we need to think very differently and work smart in order to reach a very lofty but incredibly worthwhile goal of empowering all young people to have and to make their own choices in life.
I leave you with two quotes from Emerson and Einstein:
“Don’t go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”.
“No problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it. We need to see the world anew”.
We cannot hope to change a problem of the ages, like disadvantage, by doing what has already been done. Those things have obviously not worked because we still have millions of kids living in disadvantage across the globe. Cradle.IA is here to see if it will be our time and our people that could be the catalyst for change.
We are thrilled to share this start with everyone.
